El Gringo is an action-packed movie about a character simply known as The Man, played by Scott Adkins. During a DEA ambush his partners are killed and he is wounded. After this life changing event he decides to pack up his bloody past, two million dollars and move to Acapulco, Mexico for his retirement. Crossing the Mexican border with a bullet in this arm and a satchel full of cash proves to be a bad idea. In almost no time The Man gets stranded at a bus station in El Fronteras. He very quickly learns that the sheriff, played by Christian Slater, is one of the most dishonest men in town. Word of Then Man, El Gringo, spreads through the underground criminal networks. The Man soon encounters the local drug cartel as well as his former DEA boss. Just when he thinks he is safe his own checkered past springs up in his face. The screenplay for El Gringo was written by Jonathan Stokes, later purchased from him by After Dark Media, an American Company. The executive producer of the movie El Gringo is Joel Silver, directed by Eduardo Rodriguez. The majority of production occurred in 2011 with a planned release of early 2012. El Gringo is estimated to have cost seven million U.S. dollars. It was filmed in Bulgaria and Louisiana, despite its supposed Mexican roots. El Gringo came to theaters in May 2012 with the MPAA rating of R. El Gringo has a runtime of slightly over an hour and a half. Critics and audience alike disliked this movie. The initial box office weekend came in so low it is impossible to even find how much the movie grossed. Despite only coming to theaters in the summer of 2012, El Gringo was released to DVD just five months later in October 2012. In 2013 El Gringo was nominated for a Golden Reel Award for best sound editing, it lost by a wide margin to the animated hit Wreck-It-Ralph.
