This historical drama depicts the creation of the state of Israel in the 1940s. It is based on the novel by Leon Uris, and it was written and directed by Otto Preminger. It follows a group of characters as they take part in the early days of the Jewish exodus to the new state and find themselves caught up in conflict with the Palestinians who are already living there. The film opened in 1960 and stars Paul Newman and Eva Marie Saint. The film's musical score was widely regarded and won both an Oscar and a Grammy Award.
