Frozen is a Chinese film originally shot in 1994, but it had to be smuggled out of the country and was later released in 1997. Producer Wang Xiaoshuai had filmed Frozen after being blacklisted for filming his previous film without government approval. The story of Frozen is supposedly based on a true story. Professional actor, Jia Hongsheng, plays the main character, Qi Lei. Qi Lei is a young performance artist who centers his acts around the theme of death. After performing two acts simulating death, Qi Lei decides to dedicate his third act to his actual suicide. For this final work of art, Qi Lei plans to die from hypothermia on the longest day of the year in protest of the coldness of society. He calls his final act "Funeral on Ice."
