He Named Me Malala is a 2015 movie that is based on the life of the young Pakistani teen, Malala Yousafzai. Yousafzai is the young teen that was shot in the head by the Taliban back in October of 2012. Yousafzai was a well known female rights activist in Pakistan and had once written a blog under an anonymous name on the BBC website. Yousafzai would eventually become the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for her work for women's rights and children's rights throughout the world.

He Named Me Malala focuses on the plight of Malala Yousafzai before and after the attempt on her life by the Taliban. The name of the movie was inspired by her father Zaiuddin Yousafzai. In the movie it is discovered that Zaiuddin got the name for his daughter from a known Pashtun warrior. This warrior was known in the lore of Afghanistan as somewhat of a Joan of Arc character of the country. The father raised his daughter to be somewhat of a Joan of Arc type and that shows in the strong stance that Malala takes in promoting women's rights and education for young girls.
