The movie Henry V (The Hollow Crown) is a British historical drama film that follows the reign of King Henry V during the Hundred Years' War. The movie stars Tom Hiddleston as Henry V, John Hurt as the Chorus, Anton Lesser as Exeter, Julie Walters as Mistress Quickly, Joseph Patterson as Boy, Edward Akrout as Dauphin, Tom Brooke as Fluellen, Geraldine Chaplin as Alice, Richard Clothier as Duke of York, and many others.
The movie begins with the death of King Henry IV and the ascension of his son, the young and inexperienced King Henry V, to the throne of England. The country is in a state of political upheaval and there are many who doubt Henry's ability to rule. However, Henry is determined to prove his worth and assert his authority, and he sets his sights on France.
With the help of his loyal and seasoned advisors, Exeter and York, Henry rallies his troops and sets off across the English Channel to wage war against the French. Along the way, they encounter many obstacles and challenges, including inclement weather, disease, and hostile French forces.
However, Henry proves to be a skilled and shrewd commander, and he leads his troops to a decisive victory against the French at the Battle of Agincourt. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, Henry's army is able to defeat the French thanks to Henry's leadership and the bravery of his soldiers.
Throughout the movie, we see Henry struggle with the weight of his responsibilities and the toll that war takes on his psyche. He is haunted by the ghosts of those he has killed and he constantly questions the morality of his actions. At one point, he even disguises himself as a common soldier to hear their opinions and gain insight into their perspectives.
The movie also explores the relationships between Henry and the various characters around him. He forms a close bond with his childhood friend, the roguish Falstaff (who is referenced, but does not actually appear on screen), and he develops a romantic relationship with a French princess, Katherine, played by Mélanie Thierry. Additionally, we see his interactions with his advisors, his soldiers, and the French court.
Overall, Henry V (The Hollow Crown) is a beautifully crafted historical epic that explores themes of leadership, morality, and the horrors of war. With its stunning visuals, powerful performances, and intricate storytelling, it is a must-see film for anyone interested in history, culture, or human nature.
