The warship HMS Defiant is under the able leadership of Captain Crawford during its battles with Napoleon and his French navy. Crawford's ambitious first mate has thoughts of mutiny when his own counsel is overlooked. Battles on the high sea lead to the incapacitation of Crawford and to usurpation by the first mate. Loyalty to Crawford almost leads to mutiny, but capture of a French prisoner yields information about Napoleon's plans for the war's future.
