Hot Rod is a 2007 comedy film that stars Andy Samberg as Rod Kimble, a self-appointed stuntman who dreams of emulating his late father, an evil-knievel style daredevil. Rod's childhood friend Denise (Isla Fisher) acts as the team's mechanic while another friend, Dave, serves as the film's narrator. The movie opens with Rod attempting a seriously low-key stunt that falls flat on its face, setting the tone for the rest of the film. While he initially comes across as completely inept, it quickly becomes apparent that Rod has an unwavering dedication to both his craft and his dreams despite lacking in actual talent.

When Rod's father passed away as a young child, the aspiring stuntman was left with the legacy of his father's mantle. With a heart for adventure and a will to succeed, Rod has been practicing stunts since childhood, but the general public still sees him as a bit of a joke.

Rod's determination to prove himself increases after his step-father (Ian McShane) falls seriously ill and requires an expensive heart transplant. Unfortunately, the family can't afford the surgery, leading Rod to take desperate measures to raise the necessary funds. Rod decides to jump his motorcycle over 15 school buses to raise enough money for his father's heart transplant.

As the day of the big jump approaches, Rod's team begins to feel the pressure, and personal relationships suffer. Despite his team's lack of confidence and the disbelief of everyone else, Rod remains determined to succeed in the epic stunt.

In a twist of events, Rod's rival performer crashes and burns early on, providing him with a false sense of confidence. The climax of the film sees Rod set off on his explosive and action-packed jump over the school buses.

Despite a number of obstacles along the way - including several high-speed crashes - Rod manages to make his jump, landing safely on the other side of the buses. After the jump, Rod has newfound respect and appreciation from his peers, and he's finally considered a serious stuntman.

The film is full of physical comedy, slapstick humor, and over-the-top stunts, all of which are expertly executed and strung together by a well-written script. Samberg's performance as the endearingly bumbling Rod Kimble is pitch-perfect, supported by fantastic turns from Fisher and McShane.

Hot Rod is a hilarious and heartwarming movie that offers some laugh-out-loud moments while telling a genuinely sweet, uplifting story. The movie has become somewhat of a cult classic since its release in 2007, thanks in no small part to Samberg's natural charm and impeccable comedic timing. Whether you're a fan of slapstick humor or just looking for a good comedy to watch, Hot Rod is an excellent choice.

Hot Rod is a 2007 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 28 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.7 and a MetaScore of 43.
