Nick and Mary are young and in love, but their corrupt boss Gordon is running their lives. When the boss reveals the extent of his evil plots to Nick, a fight ensues and Gordon is killed. Nick refuses to defend himself in court and the judge sentences him to hang. Everyone around Nick shows concern for him; the governor even summons Nick to his home to try to reason with him, but he will not relent. Even to Mary he will not explain what happened.
