Released in 2001 and directed by Gore Verbinski, The Mexican is an adventure comedy that tells the story of Jerry Walbach, played by Brad Pitt, who is torn between is work for the mob and his love for his girlfriend, Samantha, played by Julia Roberts. The conflict arises when Jerry's mob boss orders him to retrieve an antique Mexican pistol called "The Mexican." According to legend, the pistol was cursed when it was used in a suicide as a result of a love triangle. Jerry's girlfriend Samantha wants Jerry to end his work for the mafia. Jerry locates the gun in Mexico but encounters a number of setbacks in getting it back to the States. At one point in the film, Samantha, who has broken up with Jerry prior to his leaving on this errand, is kidnapped by a homosexual hit man. The film also features Gene Hackman and James Gandolfini.
