Reed Frish is a young man who (following his dad) is on a radio show with the town's mayor and they talk about and discuss issues presented by residents of the town. His best friend helps him with the show and is engaged to a high school friend. Fish's high school love comes back to town and tells him she actually quit school and is trying to pursue a career in music but is stuck waitressing to make ends meet. This brings him helping her to perform at a local bar to get noticed and this further makes him reevaluate his life and his decisions.
