Inferno is a classic western thriller from 1953, directed by Roy Ward Baker, and starring Robert Ryan, Rhonda Fleming, and William Lundigan. The film is set in the vast desert of Arizona and tells the story of a man named Donald Whitley Carson III (played by Ryan), a millionaire and a wife-abuser who gets lost in the desert with his young and beautiful wife, Geraldine (played by Fleming).

At the beginning of the movie, viewers see Carson and Geraldine traveling through the desert in their car. Carson is driving recklessly and inattentively, preoccupied with his own thoughts and anger. Suddenly, the car crashes, and Carson is thrown out of the vehicle, while his wife remains unconscious inside. When Carson comes to, he realizes that he is badly injured and that his wife is nowhere to be found. Soon, he realizes that she has also survived the crash, but has ventured out into the dangerous wilderness alone.

As Carson struggles to find his way back to civilization, he becomes increasingly delirious and paranoid, convinced that his wife has abandoned him and is trying to kill him. Meanwhile, his wife is fighting for survival in the scorching heat and the treacherous terrain.

Desperate for help, Carson comes across a group of travelers who are camped out in the desert. Among them is an older woman named Trina (played by Evelyn Keyes), who takes pity on Carson and promises to help him find his wife. As the two of them set out on their journey, they must navigate various obstacles, including quicksand, rattlesnakes, and unpredictable weather.

The film is notable for its stunning cinematography, particularly in its depiction of the brutal and unforgiving desert landscape. The movie was filmed on location in Arizona, and the vast, empty expanses of sand and rock create a hauntingly beautiful backdrop for the action.

Inferno also boasts strong performances from its cast. Robert Ryan is particularly impressive as the morally ambiguous Carson, a man whose flaws are laid bare as he fights for survival in the desert. Rhonda Fleming, too, is excellent as the beleaguered Geraldine, whose own harrowing ordeal unfolds in parallel to her husband's.

At its core, Inferno is a tense, suspenseful thriller, with a gripping storyline and well-crafted action sequences. It's a classic example of the kind of drama that was popular in the Golden Age of Hollywood, relying on strong characters and tight plotting, rather than special effects or high-concept premises.

With its arid, sun-scorched setting and intense storyline, Inferno is a movie that is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. It's a gripping exploration of human nature under extreme duress, and a testament to the power of the human spirit in even the harshest of environments.
