Jana is a 2004 Tamil language action film, directed by Shaji Kailas. The movie focuses on the complex mind of leading man, Jana (Ajith Kumar), as he attempts to maneuver between being a good man to the local citizens around him, while also fighting off gangster enemies who have come to kill him due to past battles. The film begins in a small village in the city of Tamil Nadu, where Jana is seen keeping a low profile and becoming a leader of sorts, among the citizens, as he kindly takes up the causes of his fellow villagers. Jana soon runs into a young lady on vacation named Manimegalai (Sneha). The two flirt and eventually begin to take a liking to each other. While all seems well, there is then an interval in the film, with a message that states, "wait to see the other face." At this point, viewers realize Jana has another side to him that has not been seen of yet. As the film continues, it becomes apparent that Jana has taken his efforts for justice a step further as he was formerly a vigilante that had killed corrupt politicians and gangsters in the past for their wrong doings. His past then comes to the forefront, as his main rival, underground mobster Bhandari (Siddique), is seen being released from jail and then coming to the village to fight Jana one more time. The two men (along with Siddique's associates) then meet and at the climax, viewers learn that Siddique has killed Jana's mother and brother in the past and their resentment for each other is a personal one. The action then picks up as the two fight to the death, while his love, Manimegalai, attempts to come to terms with Jana's vigilante past.
