Joshua Then and Now is based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Mordicai Richler. In the movie, Joshua Shapiro (James Woods), a successful writer and political pundit, finds himself reflecting on his life after being stuck in the hospital. His wife seems to have left him and he is involved in treacherous and embarrassing sex scandal. Feeling lost and alone, Joshua tries to find some meaning in his life by reflecting on everything that has led him to this point, including his unusual upbringing on St. Urban Street in Montreal. He also reflects on the lives of his childhood friends, discovering many of them have become successful in their own right.
