Killer Constable is a martial arts action film released in 1980, directed by Chih-Hung Kuei and starring Kuan Tai Chen, Feng Ku, and Jason Piao Pai. The plot is set in ancient China, during the Ming dynasty, where the government has established a group of Constables who are tasked with upholding the law and safeguarding the citizens against criminal activity.

The story revolves around one such constable, Chen Tien Wu (Kuan Tai Chen), who is known for his exceptional martial arts skills and his strict adherence to justice. However, his life takes a turn when he is assigned to a case involving a wealthy landlord who has been accused of murder. Chen suspects that the landlord is indeed guilty, but due to lack of evidence, he is unable to prove his guilt.

Meanwhile, a notorious bandit leader, Lu Tung Chi (Feng Ku), has been carrying out a string of robberies and murders, and the Constables are unable to stop him. Chen decides to take matters into his own hands and hunts down Lu Tung Chi. However, when Chen confronts Lu Tung Chi, he discovers that there is more to the bandit's story than what meets the eye. This leads Chen to question his own beliefs and perceptions about justice and morality, and forces him to make a difficult decision that could jeopardize his own life.

The movie is known for its stylish and brutal fight scenes, choreographed by the legendary Lau Kar-Leung. The action sequences are well-executed, and the actors deliver some of the most memorable fights in the history of Hong Kong cinema. The film is also notable for its exploration of complex themes, such as the inner conflict between duty and conscience, the corruption of power, and the duality of good and evil.

Kuan Tai Chen, who has appeared in over 70 films throughout his career, delivers a solid performance as Chen Tien Wu. He portrays the character with a sense of dignity and honor, while also conveying his internal struggles and doubts. He is well-supported by the rest of the cast, including Feng Ku as Lu Tung Chi, who gives a nuanced portrayal of a villain who is not entirely unlikeable.

The film's visual style is also noteworthy, with its use of sepia tones and bleak landscapes. The cinematography adds to the film's somber atmosphere, and the pacing is slow and deliberate, allowing the audience to savor and appreciate each fight scene.

Overall, Killer Constable is a classic martial arts film that deserves to be seen by fans of the genre. It combines stunning fight sequences, complex characters, and thought-provoking themes, making it a memorable and engaging film experience.
