Kurt and Courtney is a 1998 documentary exploring the lives of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. The story begins with Cobain's troubled home life as a child and moves forward to his days as front man, guitarist, song writer and vocalist for Nirvana. Cobain's early career was filled with stage fright, uncertainty of himself as an artist, and his eventual experimentation with heroin. Documented by the film's director, Nick Broomfield, Kurt and Courtney is filled with photos, video clips and stories from friends and family of the deceased musician and his wife, Courtney Love. The objection of Nick Broomfield is to find the truth concerning the untimely death of Kurt Cobain by conducting a series of interviews from individuals that knew Cobain well. Kurt Cobain died on April 5, 1994 from a single shotgun blast to his head. The singer's body was found in his Seattle home and the police investigators officially deemed the shooting to be a suicide. However, Nick Broomfield probes into the Kurt Cobain suicide case and brings up some interesting facts that the police department failed to disclose to the public. Broomfield is not out to slander or incriminate anyone in connection with Kurt Cobain's death. The content of this documentary is meant to explore and examine all the evidence. The Kurt Cobain suicide contains a number of mystery elements that are worthy of Broomfield's investigation to cut to the chase and reach the truth. The singer's body was quickly cremated after death and the Cobain home was bulldozed to the ground, thus eliminating the opportunity for a second autopsy or to uncover any additional physical evidence from the Cobain residence. However, Broomfield did manage to bring attention to a few inconsistencies that challenged the coroner's final verdict of suicide. Kurt and Courtney has a running time of 95 minutes and is rated R for strong language, some sexual situations and drug use. The audience is presented the information regarding the Kurt Cobain case and encouraged to draw their own conclusions. Kurt and Courtney is filled with rare footage of the pair and contains an excellent biographical background on Kurt Cobain's childhood.
