Life Is Beautiful

Life is Beautiful begins in Italy, in the year 1939. The movie revolves around Guido, a young Jewish man who is headed to the city to look for work, leaving his old life in the country behind. Guido immediately falls in love with Dora, a teacher in the city. Dora is engaged to a rich, arrogant government official. Guido is unwilling to give up on Dora, and does many things to get her attention. He makes his intentions and interest in her known immediately. Dora eventually returns Guido's affection, and she leaves her fiancé. They soon marry, and have a son they name, Joshua. As World War II closes in, the anti-Semitic attitude in Italy increases. Being Jewish, Guido tries to make light of the conflict. However, Guido, his uncle, and Joshua are eventually captured, and placed with hundreds of other Jews onto a train. They are sent to a concentration camp. At the camp, Guido tries to hide from his son why they are there, and make it less scary for him. He turns the camp into a complicated game, where Joshua has to perform different tasks that Guido gives him. Guido tries to take a very difficult and scary situation, and make his son feel loved and protected.
