Joel is lost in a deep depression from the recent loss of his wife. He lost his job and alienated his friends so that he could keep himself locked up in his home all day in a dazed state of depression. His mother-in-law is worried about him and comes to visit. She tries to help through his deep depression by asking him to read his wife’s suicide note and look at their old pictures, in hopes that he could heal and move forward. However, Joel keeps resisting this and prefers to remain shut off to the world. Eventually he turns to huffing gasoline fumes which quickly spirals out of control.
