Love on the Run, released in 1936, is a delightful romantic comedy. The movie stars the ever-green and charismatic duo of Joan Crawford and Clark Gable, along with Franchot Tone. The iconic duo of Crawford and Gable appears in several films, but it is this movie that showcases their on-screen chemistry and comic timing. The film starts with Sally Parker (Joan Crawford), a gorgeous but impoverished journalist, attending a swanky New York party. There she meets her ex-husband and a former magazine editor, Michael (Franchot Tone), who both work together and plan to publish a serialized story about their past love affair.

Sally is not only passionate about journalism but also has a problem with self-control in regards to divulging secrets. As the story of Sally's and Michael's past love affair is published, Sally finds herself jobless and on the run in pursuit of a scoop. She takes the advice of friend and colleague Judson and heads to Florida to cover a case involving a notorious criminal on the run, "The Carbuncle."

En route to Florida, Sally runs into her ex-husband Peter (Clark Gable), a dashing and charming private investigator. The two had been married briefly, but Peter's short-lived career as a pilot put a strain on the marriage, and they divorced.

Bumping into Peter rekindles their romance, at the same time, brings to the surface the conflict between their careers: Sally, fueled by her passion for journalism, wants the scoop, and Peter, who is chasing the same story, is determined to catch and bring the criminal to justice.

As they follow the trail of "The Carbuncle," Sally and Peter's love story blooms, and they must figure out how to balance their feelings for each other with their passion for their respective careers.

Joan Crawford's character, Sally, is a strong and independent woman, a trait that was rare to see on screen during the period the film was made. Her career advancement narrative and her zeal for journalism resonate with modern audiences.

Clark Gable, on the other hand, portrays the dashing and smooth-talking male lead with the right amount of charm, and his on-screen chemistry with Crawford is something to behold.

Franchot Tone's Michael, Sally's former love, brings balance to the lead duo with his suave yet understated presence. His character is integral to the plot, and Tone's portrayal makes the film more endearing and enjoyable.

The supporting cast of the film includes Reginald Owen, who plays the over-the-top and eccentric criminal lawyer who provides a comic relief from the movie's seriousness.

Love on the Run is a delightful watch that showcases the charm and talent of the classic duo of Crawford and Gable. The witty banter and on-screen romance between the two lead characters make the film an engaging and enjoyable watch. It is a classic romantic comedy that has stood the test of time and still manages to capture the hearts of audiences today.

Love on the Run is a 1936 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 20 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.0.
