Man in the Vault is a 1956 film noir directed by Andrew V. McLaglen and starring William Campbell, Karen Sharpe, and Anita Ekberg. The movie takes place in Los Angeles and follows a safe cracker named Tommy (Campbell) who is hired by a mysterious woman named Mimi (Ekberg) to break into a safe that is said to contain a large sum of money. Tommy agrees to the job, even though he knows it is a risky one.

Tommy goes to the building where the safe is located, and he sets up shop in a vacant apartment across the street. From there, he begins his work, but it is not long before he discovers that he is not alone in the building. He soon learns that there is another man in the building, and there is something suspicious about him. The man is named Ducky (Berry Kroeger), and he seems to be up to no good.

Tommy becomes increasingly paranoid as he works, and he begins to suspect that Ducky is there to kill him. He quickly realizes that he is in over his head and may not be able to complete the job without help. He turns to a woman named Ruth (Sharpe) for help. Ruth is a clerk at a nearby store, and she is immediately drawn to Tommy. Despite knowing that he is a criminal, she wants to help him and even cares for him.

As the tension builds, Tommy and Ruth find themselves in a deadly game of cat and mouse with Ducky. They know that if they don't stay one step ahead of him, they could end up dead. Meanwhile, Mimi, who has been absent for much of the film, reappears and adds another layer of intrigue to the plot.

The film is a tense and atmospheric thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The direction by Andrew V. McLaglen is strong, and the performances by the cast are uniformly good. William Campbell is excellent as Tommy, and he brings a sense of vulnerability to the character that makes you root for him, even though he is a criminal. Karen Sharpe is equally good as Ruth, and she gives a nuanced performance that is both vulnerable and tough. Anita Ekberg, while not given much to do, brings a sense of mystery to the role of Mimi.

Overall, Man in the Vault is a solid film noir that is worth seeing. The tension and suspense are well-balanced, and the characters are well-developed. If you're a fan of film noir, this is a movie you won't want to miss.

Man in the Vault is a 1956 crime movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 13 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.0.
