The story starts out in ancient Egypt where a young girl named Emmy, asks the gods for help so she won't have to marry a man her mother has picked for her. The god's answer her by sending her into the future. The story fast forwards to the present day and a young man named Jonathan. Jonathan is employed as an artist who creates mannequins for department store displays. He ends up losing his job because he took too much time in creating one specific mannequin. The mannequin he created ends up being transferred to one of the high class department stores in the area.

Through a series of unexpected events, Jonathan ends up outside the high class store at the same time a new decoration is being raised on the outside. The item is about to fall right on top of the store's owner when Jonathan steps in and pushes her out of the way. In gratitude, she gives him a job in the store. Together with an over the top designer named Hollywood, Jonathan creates window displays for the store. It turns out the special mannequin he put together is inhabited by the spirit of the Egyptian girl Emmy. The problem is that only Jonathan knows she is there. Whenever he is alone with the mannequin, Emmy brings it to life.

Jonathan and Emmy spend a number of nights inside the store where they have fun with the items they find in all of the different departments. For the most part they are alone, but there is a guard on duty at night who also has a mean bulldog. Complications arise when Jonathan's former girlfriend learns of his success at the new store and wants to learn what his secret is. The real secret behind his success is the relationship he has with the free spirited Emmy, whom he falls in love with.
