Overboard is a comedy starring Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. Joanna, who is played by Goldie, is a wealthy socialite who decides to hire Dean, played by Kurt, to make repairs to a closet on her yacht. Joanna puts on all the airs associated with a young woman of her status and is annoying, rude and obnoxious to the working-class Dean. Later on, after Dean has gone, Joanna is on deck when the yacht suddenly lurches, throwing her overboard. She is rescued by a passing barge and taken to the nearest hospital. It turns out Joanna has amnesia and can't remember who she is or where she lives. Because she and her fiancé had their boat docked in a small town for repairs, nobody in the town knows her. The local newscasters put on a broadcast about the woman who was found but who does not know who she is. The broadcast is seen by Dean, who decides to turn the tables in his favor. He makes a claim that Joanna is his wife, Annie, and even goes so far as to describe a birthmark she has on her buttocks, which he happened to see while he was making repairs on her boat. Joanna, who now answers to Annie, goes home with Dean even though she does not remember having a life with him. Dean also has some young sons who are in on the plot to have Joanna wait on him. Dean and his sons live in a modest, almost run-down type of home, where they get Joanna to perform all types of daily tasks they have long neglected. Feeling it is her duty as a mother and wife, she cooks and cleans for Dean and his boys. While Joanna is staying with Dean, he sees a different side of the woman he knew on the yacht and begins to develop romantic feelings for her.
