Captain Ron is a movie starring Kurt Russel as the somewhat less than seaworthy captain. The somewhat aloof and always scruffy Captain is paired with an overstressed family man named Martin Harvey, who is played by Martin Short. What ensues is a wild adventure on the high seas with a lot of laughs and a lot of unexpected situations. The story begins with Martin and his wife at home amidst the chaos of raising a teenage daughter and prepubescent son. Martin is notified that his uncle has passed away and has left him his treasured yacht. Tired of the hectic family life, Martin convinces his wife and kids that a break would be nice so they take a trip to where the yacht is located, planning to sail it back home. What Martin does not plan for is the dilapidated condition of his uncle's so called yacht. The boat is in bad need of repair and Martin does not know how to sail it. He attempts to hire a professional to sail his boat for him, but what he ends up with is the unpredictable character of Captain Ron. Ron is always looking to have a good time and seems to spend the majority of his time getting drunk. He also likes the ladies and is quick to pay Martin's wife compliments on her good looks. The Captain, along with the Harvey family, set out on the boat in the hopes of sailing it back to the Harvey's home town. Along the way, the boat often breaks down, Captain Ron often wanders off and the entire family encounters a band of modern day pirates. The fun and adventure does have an underlying story which shows in a subtle way how Martin as a man, begins to develop more confidence and courage to face difficult situations.
