Three Men and a Baby
- 1 hr 42 min
Three Men and a Baby is about a hapless trio of bachelors named Peter, Michael and Jack, who deal with the arrival of a baby on their doorstep. The roommates are played by Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson, respectively. The film was directed by Leonard Nimoy. It is a light-hearted take on the responsibilities of fatherhood and how it changes the lives of carefree bachelors. Jack is an actor who has a fling with a co-star named Sylvia (Nancy Travis) that results in the birth of a baby daughter named Mary. Sylvia leaves the baby on the doorstep of Jack’s apartment, which he shares with Peter and Michael. Jack is away filming a movie, leaving Peter, the architect, and Michael, the cartoonist, to take care of the baby. In a comedic mix-up towards the middle of the film, Michael and Peter believe they are to deliver the baby to two men who appear at their door asking for a package. It turns out that the two are actually drug dealers, and Peter and Michael give them powdered baby formula instead of the heroin they are looking for. When the drug dealers ransack their apartment, the men have to formulate a plan to catch them once and for all. When Jack comes back home, Peter and Michael delight in passing all responsibility on to him in retaliation for giving up their lives to change diapers and clean up drool. Jack, however, learns to love the baby. After awhile, the baby’s mother, Sylvia, appears at their home wishing to take the baby with her to England. The men agree, having yet to discover how much they are attached to Mary. At the end, they must decide whether to return to their lives as bachelors or commit to a lifetime of responsibility.
