Splash is a fantasy comedy movie starring Tom Hanks, Daryl Hanna, and John Candy. This film is approximately two hours long and contains a few adult themes. Allen, a young boy on vacation with his family at Cape Cod, becomes fascinated by the water, and he jumps in but can't swim. Almost drowning, he is saved by a young girl mermaid. Allen feels an instant connection with her. Although he believes the encounter to be a hallucination, Allen still cannot help but compare every woman he meets to his connection with the mermaid, leaving him single and alone. Allen and his older brother Freddie run a fruit and vegetable business. After his last failed attempt with a girl, a depressed Allen returns to Cape Cod and meets a scientist named Walter. Allen again falls into the sea and wakes up on a beach next to a naked woman. Allen becomes instantly attracted to her, not knowing that she is his youthful mermaid. She kisses him then dives back into the ocean. However, Walter, looking to prove the existence of sea creatures, discovers her as a mermaid and becomes obsessed with finding her again. Later on, the mermaid reappears, with Allen's lost wallet, naked on the beach. The police contact Allen, and he meets her for the first time. She learns English from watching television and tells him her name is Madison. Only able to live out of water for a short time, she must decide if she will return to the ocean as a mermaid forever or stay and become a human with Allen. At a dinner, Walter spots her and soaks her with water. This turns her human legs back into fins, and she is taken away to be studied. Depressed and missing Madison, Allen, with the help of Freddie, breaks her out of the lab, and Allen follows her into the ocean, never to return.
