Bewitched is a comedy about a real-life witch cast in the role of a TV witch. The story begins with a man named Jack, played by Will Ferrell, being cast in the role of the witch's husband, who is mortal. The studio is looking for an actress to play the role of the wife who is a witch in the remake of an old television show. Meanwhile, real-life witch Isabel, played by Nichole Kidman, moves to town in an effort to be more like mortals. She decides to visit the local bookstore to find a book on how to go about getting a job, which is where she meets Jack. Jack is immediately drawn to Isabel's charm and personality and convinces her to attend an audition for the part of his wife on the TV show. The auditions go well, and Jack gets Isabel to agree to take the part of his TV wife, Samantha. The cast for the remake also includes a temperamental older actress who plays the part of Samantha's mother on the show. In an effort to appease the older actress, the studio heads cut out Samantha's lines. This makes Isabel angry, and she decides to get even by enlisting the help of her aunt in casting a love spell on Jack. The spell works to Isabel's advantage when Jack falls in love with her and insists the scripts be changed to give Isabel more parts. The spell also makes Jack want to go out with Isabel, which is a side effect she did not plan for. She reverses the spell, which ends up in Jack getting angry about the parts and Isabel getting fired. Even though he is no longer under a spell, Jack is captivated by Isabel's mystery and wants to get to know her better. Despite conflicts from Jack's ex-wife and Isabel's father, the two end up falling in love.
