Men of War is an action drama film produced by Arthur Goldblatt and Andrew Pfeffer. The film stars Charlotte Lewis and Dolph Lundgren. Men of War was released in Japan in 1994, and in the United States in 1995. The film runs for 103 minutes. Men of War stars Nick Gunar, a former Special Operations soldier living in Chicago. Gunar doesn’t have much money and is struggling to get through the long winter. One day, a pair of men approach him and offer him work on an island in the South China Sea. In need of a job, Gunar accepts their offer and pulls together a team of soldiers he knows who are also in desperate situations. Gunar and the others travel to the island and encounter a sinister man named Keefer, who had previously gone to war with them. Keefer currently commands the local law enforcement officers. On the island, Gunar and his comrades meet a group of mostly nonviolent natives. Some of the natives, however, are planning to murder others to discover the location of the island’s treasure. Gunar thwarts their plans, only to discover that the treasure the natives are seeking is guano. The men plan to collect all of it, and so they separate off into groups to find it. Gunar pays his men and gives them their marching orders, declining to murder the natives to collect the guano. Keefer decides to join up with the soldiers that Gunar released and enter into battle with the natives. Although the soldiers have powerful weapons, the natives use their knowledge of the land and deceptive tactics to combat their opponents in a violent struggle for control of the island’s treasure. Men of War was written by Stan Rogow and John Sayles, and directed by Perry Lang. The film was distributed by MDP Worldwide and Miramax.
