Not Easily Broken is a film about Dave and Clarice Johnson, a couple living in an upscale neighborhood in Los Angeles. Clarice is at the top of her career as a real estate broker, while Dave is struggling to get his construction business off the ground. Clarice fails to see how important starting a family is to Dave. She has put her job and desire to climb the corporate ladder ahead of her relationship with her husband. This has caused a strain on the marriage and tension in the relationship. To make matters worse, Dave’s meddling mother-in-law constantly berates Dave, making him feel like he is a failure as a man and husband. Instead of Clarice defending her husband, she agrees with her mother, which angers Dave. One evening while traveling to an awards ceremony, the couple is involved in a devastating car accident in which Clarice’s leg is severely injured. Clarice’s mother decides to move to their home, uninvited, to take care of her daughter. They hire Julie, a physical therapist, to help Clarice regain strength and mobility of her injured leg. The therapy is successful, and in time Clarice is able to walk again and return to work. Dave finds himself attracted to the therapist, as he begins a friendship with her that soon turns into a mutual attraction. Sensing that Dave is pulling away from her, Clarice discovers the relationship and confronts Julie at her house. Longing for an attentive partner, Dave continues to develop feelings for the therapist. An unfortunate accident occurs that kills Julie’s son. Dave realizes how short life is and how important the vows he made to his wife are. The bond they have is not easily broken. Dave and Clarice reunite and repair the relationship. Clarice soon discovers she is pregnant with the child that Dave so desperately desires. The 2009 film stars Morris Chestnut, Taraji P. Henson, Jennifer Lewis, and Maeve Quinlan.
