Jakes , Michael Boatman and is based on a self-help book written by Bishop T.D, Yates, which chronicles a woman’s journey with addiction, poverty and abuse. This movie is about a young and energetic 8-year-old girl, Michelle Jordan (Jordan Mosley). Her mother Cassy Jordan (Loretta Devine) looking for love in the wrong place, jumps from man to man, and often neglects her young daughter. However, Cassy thinks she has found the right man, Reggie (Clifton Powell), a man who rapes and molests Michelle at the age of 12. The trauma of the molestation and rape sets Michelle down the wrong path and she turns from an energetic promising child into a woman who is bitter. Unable to forgive her mother and Reggie, Michelle starts out on a life of poverty, prostitution, and drug addiction. Things begin to change for Michelle when she is arrested and goes to jail. While in jail, everything changes for Michelle and she realizes that she has to make a new start on her life. After she gets out of jail she meets an old childhood friend, Todd (Michael Boatman) who gives her a ride to the halfway house that she will be living in with her friend Nicole (Idalis DeLeon). Sadly, changing her ways is not so easy for Michelle as she soon has to deal with her ex-pimp and drug supplier as well as Reggie and her mother. Unable to cope with all the struggles, guilt, anger and hatred, Michelle starts to slip back into her old life. However, this time she has friends to help her and Nicole and Todd take her to a revival meeting. Through the revival meeting, she meets Bishop T.D. Yates (played by himself) and with the help of Nicole, Todd and her godmother Twana (Debbie Morgan) she begins to change her life for the better and let go of the hatred and bitterness that she feels.
