One Night Only is a Chinese drama film directed by Matt Wu and starred by Aaron Kwok, Yang Zishan, Hao Lei, Andy On, Jack Kao. The story revolves around a struggling gambler who is trying to change his life for the better with the help of a woman who gets involved in his dangerous world. The movie starts with a young man named Gao Ye (Aaron Kwok) stepping off a bus in a small town to stay at his uncle's house. Gao Ye is a gambler whose life has been a series of losses, and he's currently in debt to the tune of 50,000 yuan. He tries his luck at the local casino but quickly loses everything he has. In the midst of his desperation, he meets a girl, Xiao Qi (Yang Zishan), who offers him a lifeline.

Xiao Qi is a nightclub singer who belongs to a wealthy family. She's been betrothed to a corrupt and wealthy businessman who is involved in illegal gambling. She's been trying to leave him and his world behind, but she's trapped. Gao Ye and Xiao Qi's paths cross, and they end up spending a night together. Gao Ye sees an opportunity in Xiao Qi and proposes a partnership- he will help her escape from her current life, and she will help him pay off his debt by gambling with him in a high-stakes game.

As the night goes on, the stakes get higher, and the risks they take become more dangerous. Andy On plays a ruthless gangster who is involved in the illegal gambling world and is willing to do whatever it takes to win. The film becomes a cat-and-mouse game between Gao Ye and the gangsters, with Xiao Qi caught in the middle.

One prominent theme in the movie is the desperation that comes with being stuck in a rut. Gao Ye is a man who has been struggling to get out of his gambling addiction, and he sees Xiao Qi as his ticket to a better life. Similarly, Xiao Qi is trapped in a world she doesn't want to be a part of, and she sees Gao Ye as her way out. The desperation leads them to make desperate decisions that put them in more danger.

The chemistry between the leads is palpable, and the film does a good job of building up their relationship in a short amount of time. They have excellent on-screen chemistry, and their scenes together are the best parts of the movie. Aaron Kwok's performance as Gao Ye is stellar, and he portrays the character's desperation and hope brilliantly. Yang Zishan's performance as Xiao Qi is also noteworthy, and the character is given enough depth to make her more than just a damsel in distress.

The pacing of the movie can be slow at times, and some of the supporting characters could have been fleshed out more. However, the cinematography is excellent, and the film has a distinct visual style. The soundtrack is also worth mentioning, with several songs by the Chinese rock band Mayday.

Overall, One Night Only is a solid drama that explores themes of desperation, hope, and redemption. The film boasts strong performances from its lead actors, and the on-screen chemistry between them is undeniable. While the pacing can be slow at times, the film's visual style and soundtrack make up for it. One Night Only is worth watching if you're a fan of Chinese dramas or if you're looking for a movie that explores themes of desperation and hope.
