One Night with the King
Esther finds herself among all the women who are selected for the king to view. Hegai is the king’s manservant, and he is most impressed with Esther among all of the women. Esther is particularly smart and witty and, naturally, very beautiful. Hegai is also amazed to discover that Esther can read. He brings her to read to the King one night, and she ends up telling him the biblical story of Jacob and Rachel. The King is impressed with her and decides he will summon her again. At this point, Esther is beginning to fall in love with him. The King decides to choose Esther as his queen.
Esther soon discovers there is a plot to kill her father and all of the Jewish people. She decides to go the King to beg him to put a stop to it. Esther decides to put together a banquet where she reveals that she is also a Jew. Haman, the man who was trying to kill all the Jews, becomes furious and tries to attack Esther. The King saves her life and orders Haman’s execution. Esther is thrilled, and the King decides to make Mordecai, her father, prince of Persia. The Jews are happy because their lives have been saved and they erect a small temple. Esther is thus revered for potentially sacrificing her own happiness to save her people.
