Watch Oranges and Sunshine
Margaret Humphreys (Emily Watson) is a social worker who is questioning whether she is doing the right thing in her job, especially when she has to take a child away from the parent. She is stopped as she attempts to leave the office to go home, by a woman who is claiming that she needs to find her mother. Margaret is initially skeptical by the conversation, but accepts the file that the woman is handing her as she is walking away. She casts the file aside when she gets home, later that night, Margaret is having trouble sleeping, she proceeds to look into the file and tried to commit it to memory. Margaret spends some of her time sitting in on a group of adults who are having to deal with their own issues on family separation. As she is listening to the testimony from one of the participants, Margaret realizes that it is eerily similar the the one that she recently encountered. Margaret decides that she will take a few minutes to see if she could help her visitor, and ends up enlisting her husband Merv (Richard Dillane) to help her out. They both track down the mother and a reunion is planned, where both mother and daughter get together for the first time. With her success from the first reunion, Margaret decides to turn her attention to the other case from her group session. Leaving her two kids at home with her husband, Margaret hops a plane and flies to Australia, where it seems the group member's brother was taken to as a child. What transpires next is an avalanche of similar stories that cause Margaret to make several trips back and forth to Australia, placing undue strain on her emotions and her family life. Margaret Humphreys writes this true to life story, while Jim Loach directs it. Look for supporting roles by Aisling Loftus and Lorraine Ashbourne.
