The film is about the two Pathan families who are rivals from time immemorial. Salman (Salman Khan) is the beloved son of Shekhar khan (Danny Denzongpa) and Rukhsar (Chandni) is the precious daughter of Fateh Khan. Rukhsar the beloved daughter of Fateh Khan visits a hill station with a group of friends and meets Salman, the son of her father's traditional enemy. Family rivalry fails to keep them apart and both of them fall in love. Their love story begins to unfold and their parents discover the ongoing relationship between them. Fateh Khan boils with rage whereas Shekhar Khan is elated with joy and with great pleasure he promises his son that he will soon arrange his wedding ceremony with Rukhsar. Many hurdles and difficulties adorn the path of their marriage and finally the marriage takes place. The couple is in seventh heaven with immense happiness and joy. But soon their happiness is challenged when Fateh Khan places an undue demand. Everyone is alarmed; Shekhar Khan finally decides to surrender to the unjustified demand of Fateh Khan just for the happiness of his son, Salman. Salman and Rukhsar are unaware of the fact that the everlasting family enmity is going to take a huge toll on their married life. Shekhar Khan sends Rukhsar back to her father's home just to take revenge. Poor Rukhsar has no choice but to go back with deep sadness. Fateh Khan is dumbfounded to find his daughter at his doorsteps. He meets with Shekhar Khan and asks him to accept Rukhsar back into their family. Adamant Shekhar Khan agrees to do so only if Fateh Khan seeks forgiveness before the public. Shekhar Khans self worth prevents him from doing so, as a result Salman is separated from Rukhsar. Severe bloodshed and loss of life follows the feud. Both the families come together only after Rukhsar gives birth to a lovely baby boy.
