Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens up with Watson coming to collect Holmes for his stag party, since he's getting married upon the morrow. Watson realizes too late that Holmes has turned what should have been a social occasion into a chase for more information on his shadow war with Professor James Moriarty. Holmes finds a gypsy whose brother has been kidnapped, saves her from assassination, and meanwhile Watson gets into a brawl. The next day Watson gets married, and Holmes saves him and his wife Mary from being killed. Mary is thrown from the train to the waiting Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock's brother, and taken off to safety. Sherlock and Watson get involved in Moriarty's plans, because if he isn't stopped then Watson and his new wife, as well as England, won't be safe. So the two friends undertake one last adventure, trying to find out what Moriarty has taken a gypsy and why he's invested in so many different businesses. Holmes and Watson go to France, and there they link up with the clan of gypsies led by the fortune teller Holmes saved. Through them they find an anarchist group being blackmailed by Moriarty into making bombs. An assassin shoots a well known scientist, and the party he's attending is blown up as a cover. Holmes and Watson, hot on the trail, find that Moriarty has been dipping his fingers into everything every industry that benefits from war. All he needs is conflict to maximize his profits. And according to Mycroft, Moriarty's goal is World War. Holmes and Watson make it to Switzerland, where there's a meeting of the heads of Europe. Moriarty has surgically altered an assassin and placed him in the room. Watson unmasks him, then finds Holmes and Moriarty struggling outside. Holmes pitches them both over the balcony and down into Reichenbach Falls, ostensibly dying. However, in the end, he sneaks back and into Watson's study, totally unobserved.
