Siberian Education is a gripping drama inspired by a true story that takes place in the wild backwoods of the post-Soviet Union era. The movie follows the life of Kolyma, a boy who is raised in a family of criminals in the remote and frozen Siberian wilderness. He learns the rules of survival from his grandfather Kuzia, a legendary mafia boss who runs his own code of ethics, with his own rules and teachings. Kuzia firmly believes that in the lawless land like Siberia, one must do whatever it takes to survive.

Kolyma and his brother Gennady grow up under the strict guidance of their grandfather, learning the ways of the underworld trade, which includes car theft, burglary, and violence. As the boys grow into teenagers, they become skilled in various criminal activities and start to participate in brutal and ruthless operations for their extended family.

Their criminal enterprise expands, and they begin to clash with other criminal gangs who also operate in the lawless region, putting their lives at risk. Their grandfather Kuzia is a strict, demanding, and sometimes violent teacher, but also brings a sense of pride and purpose to his family. He teaches them how to be smart and resourceful while also encouraging them to be honorable and respectful in this cold and dangerous world.

The movie is directed by Gabriele Salvatores, who manages to create a harrowing and intense atmosphere full of suspense, drama, and grit. The performances by the ensemble cast are riveting, with John Malkovich taking on the role of Kuzia, the patriarchal leader of the criminal family. His portrayal of the ruthless yet paternal character is mesmerizing and chilling.

Peter Stormare plays Kuzia's brother Uncle Kuzya, who is more flamboyant and charismatic but equally violent and unpredictable. Eleanor Tomlinson plays the love interest of Kolyma, who is schooled outside of the lawless region and holds different values and beliefs.

Arnas Fedaravicius, Vilius Tumalavicius, Jonas Trukanas, and Vitalij Porshnev deliver solid performances as the young members of the criminal family who have to grow up quickly and make tough choices in a world without hope.

The movie's exquisite cinematography captures the stark and stunning beauty of the Siberian wilderness, contrasting it with the ugliness of the criminal underworld. The bleak and unforgiving backdrop of the frozen tundra adds to the sense of isolation, danger, and despair that lingers throughout the film.

Siberian Education is a powerful and compelling drama that sheds light on the harsh reality of growing up in a lawless and unforgiving environment. The movie explores the themes of family, loyalty, morality, and survival in a world that has lost its grip on civilization.

Overall, Siberian Education is a gripping and uncompromising drama that keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats. The stunning performances, atmospheric cinematography, and intense storyline combine to create a film that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll.
