In the small town of Auburn, Pennsylvania, the winter snow blankets everything in white. The air is biting cold, but the warmth of the community keeps everyone going. Snow Angels, directed by David Gordon Green, tells the story of a handful of people whose lives intersect in unexpected ways during a particularly harsh winter. The main character, Annie (Kate Beckinsale), is a young mother in the midst of a divorce from her husband, Glenn (Sam Rockwell). Annie is trying to balance her job as a waitress and her responsibilities as a single mom to her daughter, Tara (Gracie Hudson). Glenn, meanwhile, is struggling to stay sober and stay connected to his daughter despite being separated from his wife.

Annie's life becomes further complicated when she is courted by Arthur (Michael Angarano), a teenager who is in love with her. Arthur is a romantic at heart, but he also has a troubled history - his mother is institutionalized and his father is largely absent, which means Arthur is often left to fend for himself.

As the winter progresses, the various threads of the story begin to intertwine. Glenn's struggle with addiction worsens; Annie and Arthur's relationship becomes increasingly complicated; and a tragedy unfolds that touches the lives of everyone in the town.

One of the most striking aspects of Snow Angels is its attention to detail. The film is set in the late 1970s, and Green and his team have meticulously recreated the era. From the clothes to the music to the cars, every element of the film is steeped in the time period. This attention to detail helps to transport the viewer back in time and give the story an added sense of authenticity.

The film also features strong performances from the entire cast. Beckinsale does an excellent job of portraying a young woman who is trying to hold her life together despite everything falling apart around her. Rockwell, as always, is magnetic on screen; his portrayal of Glenn is both sympathetic and frustrating, as we watch him struggle to overcome his addiction but also make terrible choices that hurt those around him. Angarano is also excellent as Arthur; he manages to tread the line between charming and creepy, creating a character who is both endearing and unsettling.

Snow Angels is not an easy film to watch. It deals with themes of loss, addiction, infidelity, and grief. But it is also a film that rewards patience and attention. As the story unfolds, we are drawn into the lives of these characters and invested in the outcome of their struggles. By the time the film's devastating final act comes around, we feel as though we have been on this journey with them and are deeply moved by what we have witnessed.

Ultimately, Snow Angels is a film about the serendipitous ways in which our lives intersect with those of others. It's a reminder that even in the midst of pain and tragedy, there is always the possibility for connection and compassion. It's a film that will stay with you long after the credits roll, a testament to the power and beauty of cinema.

Snow Angels is a 2006 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 46 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.8 and a MetaScore of 67.
