The Son of God is the story of Jesus Christ. It was written and directed by Christopher Spencer. He also wrote and directed the award winning Bible mini-series. The movie stars Sebastian Knapp as Jesus. Roma Downey stars as the elder Mary, the mother of Jesus. It opens with a shot of the apostle John on a lonely seaside. As he watches the sea rise and ebb, he looks back on his experience as a disciple of Jesus. We flash through the creation story and soon find ourselves at the birth of Jesus Christ. The movie takes us through the teachings of Jesus and the miracles he performed while on earth. It gives us a clear picture of the all the players in the story. The Pharisees who feel that Jesus is corrupting the word of God, the Sanhedrin, who feel threatened by him, and the Roman rulers who fear that he will take over their rule. The movie stays true to the Bible, as the story of Jesus is unveiled. The crucifixion scenes are shown in a real and frank way. The movie ends with the resurrection and the ascension. It closes with a final visit to John on the lonely seashore. Jesus comes to him and begins the final revelation.
