This film marks the directorial debut of the famous comedian and actor Mike Meyers. For his first project Meyers takes on a documentary regarding the life and transformation of Shep Gordon who (as the title implies) is a legend in the management industry. The film begins with Gordon's early career, showing how he practically fell into the role of manager by befriending such famous musicians as Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin in the year 1968. Gordon's success led him to become tied to a number of other famous celebrities, from Pink Floyd to Alice Cooper, but the film also steps behind his professional life and investigates the debauchery that was fairly common in the 1970s.

The film shows Shep Gordon's hedonist years, with a number of file footage clips and interviews discussing that time period. Just as Gordon's clients shifted and changed over the decades though, so too do we get to watch as the man himself changes and becomes a different person. With the hedonism left behind, we witness Gordon become a practicing Buddhist, and we watch as he creates the idea of the televised chef. Finally we see him at the pinnacle of his career, hoping to expand his personal life into a family.
