At the height of the Viet Nam conflict five young marine recruits are brought together. Alvin Foster (Jame Canning) recounts the war and the effect it has on his four comrades from the rigors of boot camp to the rice paddies of Viet Nam. He records his observations in his ever present journal. It is 1967 and the height of the Vietnam war. Five young men from different backgrounds are thrown together and must rely on each other to survive. It has been drilled into them that they are each others responsibility. One for all and all for one. While Alvin Foster has the soul of a writer, the more sensitive of the group is Billy Ray Pike (Andrew Stevens). He is haunted by thoughts of the sweetheart he left behind and the welfare of their unborn child. Longing to be home with his family and facing possible death, he soon begins to experiment with drugs and become hooked on them. Vinnie (Micheal Lembeck) is the wisecracking know it all who uses sarcastic humor to get through the war. Bisbee is the resident hippie. He knows that karma has a hand in his getting drafted. Washington (Stan Shaw), a former drug dealer is a voice of reason and soon develops surprising leadership qualities. The boys soon discover the incompetence of some Americans officers and Vietnamese corruption run rampant. The boys are offered a way out of the war. All they have to do is throw a soccer game to the Vietnamese and they will spend the rest of their time behind the front lines playing soccer exhibitions. Will they throw the game to make their stay in Vietnam easier or will they play to win? Nothing in Vietnam is simple as they soon find out. The film was directed by Sidney J.
