Iron Eagle II is the 1988 sequel to the action packed film Iron Eagle. An Israeli, Canadian, American film effort, directed by Sidney J. Furi, reprising the role of Charles "Chappy" Sinclair, played by actor Louis Gossett, Jr., including an opening scene with Jason Gedrick, who played the role of pilot Doug Masters in the original 1986 Iron Eagle film. Straying into Soviet air space, pilots Matt "Cobra" Cooper and Doug "Thumper" Masters open the film with an unfortunate encounter with the Soviets, which provokes an incident that is quickly denied by the American Secretary Of Defense as being little more than a training accident. Concerns over a nuclear weapons facility in Iraq turn the situation around, forcing the Americans and the Soviets to consider combining forces against a mutual threat in a shaky secret mission called Operation Dark Star, led by Brigadier General Charles Chappy Sinclair, who is pulled from retirement to head up the offensive. The film was partially based around an Israeli air strike mission carried out on June 7th, 1981, code named Operation Opera, where the Israeli air force secretly planned to target a nuclear reactor outside the city of Baghdad in the middle eastern country of Iraq.
