The Emperor of Peru is a 1982 adventure drama film written and directed by Fernando Arrabal. The movie stars Mickey Rooney as Dimas, a con artist and grifter who lives his life on the road, traveling from place to place, scamming people out of their money. One day, he meets a group of traveling actors, led by Anick, who convince him to join their troupe.

Dimas initially has no interest in being a part of the theater group but is forced to go along with their plan after he is accused of stealing a valuable artifact from the Peruvian government. The group decides to travel to Peru to sell the artifact and raise enough money to put on a major production.

Once in Peru, the group encounters all kinds of obstacles, including tribal warfare, religious superstition and corrupt government officials. Along the way, they also find themselves drawn into the conflicts between the indigenous people and the Spanish colonizers, who are determined to take over the country.

Jonathan Starr plays the role of a young priest who becomes involved in the group's adventures. Starr's character is initially suspicious of the actors but eventually comes to respect and admire them for their courage and determination.

The film is notable for its stunning cinematography, which captures the beauty and majesty of the Peruvian landscape. The filmmakers used authentic locations, including Machu Picchu and Cuzco, to create a sense of realism and authenticity that is rarely seen in Hollywood productions.

Throughout the film, we see the character of Dimas undergo a transformation, as he learns to value the people and experiences around him more than his own selfish desires. Along the way, he is forced to confront his own past and the mistakes he has made, and to use his wit and guile to help his new friends overcome the obstacles that stand in their way.

The Emperor of Peru is a visually stunning film with a great deal of heart and soul. It offers a unique perspective on a fascinating culture and history, and the performances of its talented cast bring the story to life in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.

Overall, this film is a must-see for anyone who loves adventure, drama, and historical fiction. It combines all of these elements into a thrilling and unforgettable journey that will leave you feeling uplifted and inspired.
