This comedy, set in 1940s rural Alabama, focuses on Collin Fenwick following the death of his mother and his arrival to live with his two spinster cousins, Verena and Dolly Talbo. Although Collin feels very restricted in his new environment, he does grow close to Dolly and encounters numerous quirky and eccentric townspeople to befriend. He finds refuge in an old tree house located deep in the woods, but his rebellious act of running away not only changes his life, but also many of those in the town that Verena has long controlled.
