The House Across the Bay is a 1940 suspense film. Steve Larwitt is a New York City nightclub owner and gangster doing time at the notorious Alcatraz prison. He is involved with singer Brenda Bentley. Larwitt learns about a plot to murder him and Bentley. He agrees to go to jail because he thinks it is a safer environment. Government officials trick Bentley and Larwitt. He thinks he is doing a short stint for tax evasion. The judge decides to make an example of him and sentences him to ten years at Alcatraz. Bentley only realizes the deception once it is too late.
