The Lunchbox tells the story of a lonely but devoted housewife in the crowded city of Mumbai. Ila is struggling to capture the attention of her bored husband by preparing a special lunch for him to open at work. Through a twist of fate, the special lunch she's prepared mistakenly is delivered to Saajan, a worker on the verge of retirement. Puzzled by her husband's lack of response, the woman decides to write a note in his special lunch the following day. Again, the lunch is delivered to Saajan. The lonely man answers the note, and the two begin an unlikely friendship. Through their correspondence, the pair's floodgates of self awareness begin to open as they share their insecurities and loneliness with each other. The movie, distributed by Sony Pictures Classics, was written and directed by Ritesh Bhatra. The Lunchbox stars Nimrat Kaur as Ila, and Irfan Khan as Saajan Fernandes.
