Half of a Yellow Sun
- 1 hr 51 min
Inspired by the book of the same title, Half of a Yellow Sun is a film that provides a look into the lives of two sisters, Olanna and Kainene, who return to Nigeria just before the outbreak of the Nigerian Civil War. Olanna and Kainene grew up in a wealthy Nigerian family and attended an expensive school in England. When the two returned from school they made very different life choices. Olanna decided to move in with her lover, the "revolutionary professor" Odenigbo, and his houseboy Ugwu while Kainene became a successful business woman and even took over her family's interests. Eventually she too falls in love with an English writer named Richard. Consumed with their personal lives, the family pays little attention to politics until the upheaval begins and then they have no choice but to face the current situation. They get caught up in a violent war as the Igbo people fight to establish Biafra as an independent republic. The ensuing violence shocks the world, and life for the family will never be the same.
