Marine Sergeant McGrath has been given the job of taking 12 prisoners from the military prison and using them to blow up a tunnel during the Korean War. The prisoners reluctantly agree to the mission as they hope to survive and be granted pardons for their crimes. As they set out on the mission they begin a plot to kill McGrath, which is altered when they discover a nun and her young schoolgirl charges are lost and injured in the jungle. The men now feel they must try and complete their mission before safely escorting the girls from the jungle.
