The Return of Swamp Think is a comedy, with aspects of a horror. This film, which uses the character Swamp Thing from DC Comics, now Vertigo, is a sequel to the original film Swamp Thing released in 1982. The film takes place in the swamp where Doctor Alec Holland was trying to create a unique formula to help mankind. The greedy Anton Arcane (the chief villain of both films played by Louis Jourdan) tried to steal it, and in the process Holland is dosed with the formula and thrown into the swamp. He mutates, becoming a thing composed of sentient vegetable matter known as the Swamp Thing. The Return of Swamp Thing focuses on the resurrection of Anton Arcane, and his efforts with his henchwoman Dr. Lana Zurell to create an army of hybrid, genetically modified monsters from the beasts and plants in the swamp using both science and magic together. Arcane even attempts to use Abby, his stepdaughter (played by Heather Locklear) in his experiments to create a new form of bizarre life in the swamp. Swamp Thing, as the protector of everything in his swamp, quickly becomes aware of Arcane's resurrection from death and his bizarre experiments as they roam the wetlands. Several fight scenes ensue, as Swamp Thing gets more and more deeply involved in trying to stop Arcane and his mad plans. The final fight of the film, between Swamp Thing and Arcane, leads to Arcane's final loss. Abby Arcane, due to the genetic experimentation she's undergone, begins to resemble a being not unlike Swamp Thing, giving the film a happy ending as the two lovers are last seen walking out into the swamp together.
