Moving from Boston to Williamstown Samantha Marris played by Olivia Thirlby is forced to have to deal with the pressures of engaging in a new school. She also secretly struggles with the academic pressures that her parents put on her as well. Her doting Mother Hannah Marris an amateur photographer played by Lili Taylor’s relationship is strained with Sam treating her disrespectfully. Ben Marris, the Father, is an Optometrist played by David Duchovny. After the move Hannah and Samantha are in a horrific car accident that fatally wounds them and ends them up on gurneys side by side in the hospital. As Hannah lies there wishing for her daughter to live she passes away, only to find that her soul has migrated itself into the body of her sixteen year old daughter. After being released from the hospital Hannah has to not only convince her husband Ben that her soul inhabits their daughter’s body, but has to find a way to live out Samantha’s life. This experience will bring her face to face with the turbulent troubles that face teenagers in these times. Things are much different with the mounting pressures of academic performance, sexual demands, drugs and unwanted advancements. All the while Ben is having trouble dealing with his obsessiveness over his wife’s soul trapped in his daughter’s body and it threatens to tear them apart while bordering the lines of indecency. Dealing with the possibility of sexual activity between husband and wife through his daughter as a medium is only touched on the surface and left lingering in the background. All of these things prove to bring on an almost disastrous certainty. This is a supernatural/psychological thriller adapted from a Japanese film is directed by Vincent Perez, with a running time of 92 minutes long.
