The Swordsman from 2020 is a South Korean martial arts film directed by Choi Jae-hoon. The movie stars Jang Hyuk, Hyeon-soo Kim, and Joe Taslim, and is set during the Joseon Dynasty in the 17th century. The film follows the story of Tae-yul, a legendary swordsman who goes on a perilous journey to find his daughter and save her from danger.

Tae-yul, played by Jang Hyuk, is a skilled swordsman who used to be a part of the royal army. However, a tragic incident resulted in him losing his eyesight and retiring from his profession. He is now a blind man who lives with his daughter, Tae-ok, in a secluded place in the mountains. Although he has retired from his job, Tae-yul still practices his swordsmanship skills daily to maintain his abilities.

One day, Tae-ok is kidnapped by Gurutai, a powerful and ruthless warlord who rules over a vast territory. Gurutai is played by Joe Taslim, who is known for his role as Sub-Zero in the recent Mortal Kombat movie. Tae-yul realizes that the only way to save his daughter from Gurutai's clutches is to embark on a journey to find her.

Tae-yul is accompanied on his journey by a young swordsman named Hwi, played by Hyeon-soo Kim. Hwi is a skilled swordsman who has been trained by Tae-yul in the past. Despite his youth, Hwi has made a name for himself as one of the most talented sword fighters in the region.

Together, Tae-yul and Hwi journey through treacherous terrain and face dangerous enemies in their quest to save Tae-ok. Along the way, they encounter a variety of characters, including a Buddhist monk, a nomadic warrior, and an old friend of Tae-yul's.

One of the standout features of The Swordsman is its action sequences. The movie features a variety of sword fighting styles, including Korean, Chinese, and Japanese techniques. The fight scenes are well-choreographed and showcase the actors' martial arts skills. Jang Hyuk in particular shines in his role as a blind swordsman, using his heightened senses and impeccable timing to outmaneuver his opponents.

Another strength of the movie is its cinematography. The film takes place in stunning natural landscapes, from snow-covered mountains to misty forests. The visual effects used to portray Tae-yul's blindness are also impressive, creating a sense of disorientation and vulnerability.

Overall, The Swordsman is an exciting and engaging movie that combines drama, action, and stunning visuals. The movie's themes of loyalty, perseverance, and family are well-executed, and the performances by the lead actors are strong. Fans of martial arts movies will appreciate the film's attention to detail and high-quality action sequences. While the movie does have some moments of violence, it is not excessively gory or graphic, making it suitable for a wide audience.

The Swordsman is a 2021 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 41 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.8.
