They Came from Upstairs is a sci-fi adventure-comedy film directed by John Schultz and written by Mark Burton and Adam F. Goldberg. The movie is about a group of vacationing children who discover a group of hostile aliens that have invaded their remote vacation home. The movie begins with the Pearson family - Stuart (Kevin Nealon), his wife Nina (Gillian Vigman) and their three children - planning to spend their summer vacation in their old family home in Maine. The family arrives at the remote vacation home and finds that Stuart's brother, a computer technician, has arranged a surprise for the children - he has installed a high-tech security system that is supposed to keep them safe during their stay.

However, the children soon discover that there is something strange going on in the house. They encounter several bizarre occurrences, such as their toys being moved, the TV turning on by itself, and their food being tampered with. One night, they are awoken by strange noises coming from upstairs. Upon investigating, they discover that a group of aliens - all miniature in size - have taken up residence in the upstairs room.

The aliens' arrival is unexpected and unwelcome. Before long, the children find themselves in a battle with the aliens, using their wits and a variety of tricks to stay out of the reach of the tiny invaders. Unbeknownst to the children, the aliens have come to Earth on a mission to recover a powerful device that is hidden somewhere in the house.

As the conflict escalates, the children must use all their resourcefulness to outsmart the aliens and prevent them from achieving their mission. Along the way, they get some help from Tom (Carter Jenkins), a brash and overconfident teenager who lives next door and has a crush on the oldest Pearson daughter, teenager Bethany (Ashley Tisdale).

The movie is an entertaining mix of sci-fi, comedy and adventure, with plenty of twists and turns to keep the viewer engaged. There are several moments of suspense and tension, but also many moments of humor, particularly in the interactions between the children and the aliens.

The cast is led by Carter Jenkins, who plays Tom, the teenage neighbor. He gives a convincing portrayal of a cocky teenager who thinks he knows everything, but ultimately proves to be a dependable ally to the children. Austin Butler plays Jake Pearson, the middle child, who takes charge when things start to go awry. Ashley Boettcher plays Hannah, the youngest Pearson child, and brings a sense of vulnerability and innocence to the role.

Ashley Tisdale plays the oldest Pearson sibling, Bethany, who is initially dismissive of her younger siblings but eventually steps up to help them. She also provides some of the movie's comic relief, particularly in her interactions with Tom. Henri and Regan Young play the youngest members of the Pearson family, who get some of the movie's funniest lines.

The aliens themselves are a highlight of the movie. They are presented as miniature creatures that can crawl on walls and have a variety of gadgets and weapons at their disposal. They are portrayed as both menacing and comical, with their high-pitched voices and quirky behavior adding to their charm.

J.K. Simmons provides the voice of the alien leader, who oversees the invasion of the Pearson household. Thomas Haden Church plays Nina's bizarre uncle, who is convinced that aliens are real and tries to convince the family to let him help them. Kari Wahlgren provides the voices for the female aliens, who provide some of the movie's most amusing moments.

Overall, They Came from Upstairs is an enjoyable sci-fi adventure-comedy that will appeal to audiences of all ages. With its outrageous plot, lovable characters, and lively action scenes, it is a movie that is sure to leave viewers entertained and amused.
