Tyler Perry's A Madea Family Funeral
- 1 hr 42 min
In this comedy, the grumpy, profane old lady Madea (played by prolific producer Tyler Perry in drag) has to deal with planning a funeral after a family reunion takes an unexpectedly tragic turn. This is the final installment in the Madea franchise, which delivered a string of modest hits for Perry. As the story progresses, Madea and her siblings travel to Georgia for their parents' 40th anniversary party. But when the family's patriarch passes away in a compromising position, the kids are forced to plan a funeral instead. Worse, they have to keep the circumstances of the old man's death a secret. Profane, slapstick humor ensues. The film debuted, like all the films in the Madea franchise, to overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics. Reviewers cited the films' poor writing, acting, and production values, along with the inanity of their humor, as reasons for giving them failing grades. Audiences have been much more forgiving, though. A Family Funeral was one of the more commercially successful films in the franchise. And audiences overall gave it an A- Cinemascore rating.
